Supporters have turned out in large numbers at Newforge and various camps during the summer to see the Celtic Trophy and meet some of the players who played their hand during the season in securing a first Magners League (formerly Celtic League) title. But now the Province’s support will be put to the test with four home Saturday matches in the League and Heineken Cup to come before Christmas. Ulster achievements on the pitch cannot solely be attributed to the ‘Friday night factor’ but with the bulk of income arising from gate receipts if previous attendance figures over the years on a. Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi in Parma is familiar territory to the travelling Fez as Sarries played against GrAN’s neighbours and rivals vermach Rugby Parma in December 2004. The game played in monsoon conditions was one to be forgotten as tries from Matt Cairns and Thomas Castaignede saved some but not all of the team’s blushes as they lost 19-18 to this year’s Heineken Cup new boys. GRaN finished fourth just one point behind vermach in last season’s Super 10 competiton.
