Falcons Learn EDF Energy Cup Opponents
    Newcastle Falcons – Jun 26, 2007
The Falcons open their campaign with a trip to Gloucester on the weekend of October 27 followed by a home tie with Welsh side Newport Gwent Dragons on the weekend of November 3. The last time the Dragons visited Kingston Park saw an injury-ravaged Falcons side claim a memorable do-or-die win to send them through to the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup for the first time in the club’s history while the potential return of ex-Newcastle captain Colin Charvis to the north-east may well be another intriguing sub-plot. The Falcons end their pool campaign on the weekend of December 1 with a trip to Heineken Cup holders London Wasps with director of rugby John Fletcher saying: “It’s a tough draw but we’ve proven down the years that we rise to the big occasion and we did have two good wins over Wasps and Gloucester in the league last season. “Newport Gwent Dragons at home will certainly have an edge to it after their last visit to Kingston Park and we’re excited about testing ourselves in this competition. ”Newcastle Falcons have won the Cup twice in the last six years beating Harlequins in the 2001 final and Sale Sharks in 2004 having also reached the 1999 final.

    The boys of summer
Naples Daily News – Naples Daily News – Jun 25, 2007
Ivers 6 feet 3 inches in flip-flops and Ray-Bans gave a tour of his rented house on a quiet back road where half-shares entitling tenants to eight weekends this summer cost $3200. He pointed out the sweeping wooden deck surrounding an azure-blue swimming pool. He did not mention the red plastic beer cup resting on the bottom of the deep end. He said the best thing about the house was that the neighbors never complain about late-night noise. “We like it back here because McCartney’s never around and the other neighbors aren’t close” he said referring to Paul McCartney who is also in a band and owns the house next door. Back inside Ivers sat on a blue velour couch with some of his housemates discussing whether age had forced them to make any changes to their lives. “They have sugar-free Red Bull now” said one… on a Saturday night this month Dave Mahony 42 an unmarried psychologist said he had joined a share house because a female friend told him it was stocked with oodles of single women and few men. As he sipped beer in the fading light of the sun disappearing behind the Fire Island Lighthouse Mahony whose light brown hair is flecked with gray considered how his life had brought him here tonight one of the oldest people in a crowd drinking Heineken from plastic cups. “Relationships I thought were going to last didn’t last” he said. “And to tell you the truth the past five years the older I get the shorter the relationships get and now it’s like a game of musical chairs. There’s nobody left.
