Wednesday’s Sporting Overview
RTE.ie – Apr 30, 2008
Rugby:
Heineken Cup finalists Munster travel to Ravenhill to face Ulster in the Magners League, kick-off 7. Munster coach Declan Kidney has included Anthony Foley in his starting XV, meaning the veteran forward is set to earn his 200th competitive cap for the southern province. Kidney has decided to rest every one of his starters in last Sunday’s magnificent Heineken Cup semi-final win over Saracens. Ulster coach Matt Williams has made six changes to the side that was defeated at the Arms Park in Cardiff just over a week ago.
Wasps’ James Buckland to join London Irish
Telegraph.co.uk – Apr 30, 2008
Of his seven appearances this season, six of those were from the bench. “I’m really excited about my involvement with London Irish,” Buckland said. “I’ve been following the success the boys have had in the Heineken Cup this year and I am looking forward to playing a part in building on that momentum in the Guinness Premiership and in Europe next season. Brian Smith, London Irish’s director of rugby, said: “The demands on our front row are such that it is essential we have strength in depth in each position. We have to plan for international call-ups and injury, and are pleased to have been able to recruit a player like James who has invaluable experience of competing at the highest level in this country and Europe. ” Buckland will once again face a stiff challenge for a place in the starting line-up, however.
