Croke Park approve Heineken Cup semi-final
Fermanagh Herald (registration) UK -
The decision to give the go-ahead was taken at last Saturday’s meeting which was held in Hayes Hotel in Thurles the site of the historic foundation of the GAA 125 years ago. The IRFU had put in a formal request for the possible use of Croke Park though it may yet be the case that the venue may not be required. This is dependent on results in the upcoming Heineken Cup quarter-finals which see holders Munster have a home tie against spreys and Leinster travel to London Harlequins. The two Irish provinces should they win will meet in the semi-final and should that be the case then Croke Park would be an 82000 sell-out.
Young names team to face Glasgow
Celtic League UK -
Cardiff Blues V Glasgow WarriorsFriday 20 February 7. 05pm kick offCardiff Blues have been in fine form in the Heineken Cup and will be looking to carry this form into the Magners League. The Blues have suffered only one home defeat since January 2008 when they lost 12-16 to the spreys at the Arms Park on New Year’s Eve 2008. The Blues know that the Glasgow Warriors will be a real threat as their most recent away win saw them defeat three times Heineken Cup champions Toulouse 33-26 on their own patch. However the Cardiff Blues can also take comfort from the fact that the last six clashes between the two teams have all been won by the home side on the day. David Young has selected the following team which sees John Yapp Bradley Davies and Robin Sowden Taylor all return from the Wales squad.
Leicester Tigers in talks with Cardiff Blues coach Dai Young
Walesnline United Kingdom -
The former Heineken Cup champions have targeted the Blues coach for a second time after the departure of Heyneke Meyer at the end of January. The Echo understands the Tigers are in discussions with Young about becoming head coach at the end of this season. Young who is out of contract at the end of the 2010 season is believed to be considering a possible move to the Guinness Premiership outfit. Meyer who coached South African outfit the Blues Bulls to the Super 14 title left the post for personal reasons. Talks between the Tigers and Young are at a very early stage and any contractual details have still to be ironed out.
