Lipman to see neurosurgeon
SkySports -
Lipman has been sidelined since he was concussed during Bath’s Heineken Cup clash against Toulouse a month ago. “I will be seeing a neurosurgeon in Bath on Tuesday” said the Bath captain who won the last of his 10 England caps against New Zealand in November. “You can’t put a time limit on it but you cannot play when you are not 100%. “If you do so you are risking brain damage memory loss and the shakes. You have to look after yourself – I am only 29.

But when a side expect to be under the cosh and there is mountain of tackling to do Worsley is your man. Two years ago Wasps not quite firing on all four trekked down to Castres for a ‘must-win’ pool game in the Heineken Cup a competition they eventually won that season. Worsley gave a jaw dropping performance as he tackled Castres into submission from start to finish. Shortly afterwards as we invaded the changing room – as you do to in France – he resembled a car-crash victim shaking uncontrollably with shock as he tried to muster this thoughts and talk. Few players put their bodies on the line as courageously and painfully as Worsley and that has always been my theory as to why he struggles sometimes to ‘go again’ the following week. Sometimes it is just not physically or mentally possible.

Two seasons ago he kicked a penalty from long range for Stade Francais in the Heineken Cup which put us out at the group stage. I remember well the feeling of deflation that day – but hopefully there will be some revenge of sorts this week. France don’t seem to be flush with options at No 10 but Beauxis is certainly a decent player who can play a number of different ways. Like me he first played for his country in the 2007 Six Nations though he missed all of last season’s tournament because of a back injury. It speaks volumes that he was named as the sole recognised fly-half specialist by coach Marc Lievremont who obviously has huge faith in him.
Richards excited by Quins

“And looking at it from a league perspective it’s vital we win these games to keep our hopes alive. It would be very nice to get into the play-offs and there’s an opportunity for us to do it. “Harlequins already through to the Heineken Cup quarter-finals stay fifth in the table but a late try from Tom Williams means the leading quartet remain in range. Gloucester director or rugby Dean Ryan was critical of referee Dave Pearson for two decisions in the build-up to the decisive score but felt his side should have had the game in the bag by then. He said: “We worked hard enough to win but when we keep putting ourselves under pressure these things are going to happen. “We have a responsibility to get ourselves out of there. The last thing I want is this side to be a kicking side but you have to protect yourself and we are just not doing it well enough.

“This sounds really negative but if I was to fail I’d want to fail on my terms. The last thing you want in my opinion is to be removed from office because you were trying to please everybody instead of saying: ‘This is what I believe in and this is the way we’re going to go. ‘”All of which explains why Bath have reached the Heineken Cup quarter-finals and are fast emerging as the Premiership’s title favourites despite a series of unfortunate events which would have tested even Lemony Snicket. The ongoing saga of the club’s continuing inability to upgrade the Recreation Ground Matt Stevens’s drug shame. the noises off have been deafening.
