I can scarcely believe it. Surely after holding out for so long and refusing to follow the same pathway as many of the English clubs and those in France too Welsh rugby is not going to bid for European glory by increasing the number of non Welsh qualified players. f course the regional owners will argue for evermore that winning the Heineken Cup and grabbing the financial security that comes with it is of paramount importance to the very survival of their individual concerns. However taking a broader look at the scene in Wales and evaluating what damage such additions make it is clear to see that such an influx of foreign players in key positions like half back and no. 8 will undermine the national bid for glory at the next World Cup. Under the guiding influence of Warren Gatland Wales forced their way into the top four of the world rankings early this year thanks to a second Grand Slam in three years and their autumnal success against the touring Wallabies in Cardiff. It has been a success story built on stability and consistency.
