Positive outlook for green brigade
Irish Independent
So what next for ‘Gara? You’d imagine he’s already getting as far away from rugby as he can but that he will come back next season ready to balance the books. Happily for Ireland he’ll be doing so with Jonny Sexton challenging him rather than admiring from the distance of the Leinster bench. Sexton’s contribution to Ireland’s Churchill Cup win was in keeping with what he did for his province in the Heineken Cup. Perhaps Sexton will be taking part in the Lions trip to Australia in four years. It’s unlikely that down there we will reach the same remarkable statistic of having eight Irish players involved in a Test as was the case last weekend in Pretoria but regardless the benefits will be felt in the Magners and Heineken and at international level. But for an injury to Stephen Ferris it probably would have been an Irish back row and back three in Loftus and all six will be available again next season.
